Meredith’s four-wicket haul keeps Somerset in control

Somerset tightened their grip on the summit of Group A in the One Day Cup by crushing Middlesex by eight wickets at Lord’s.

Tasmanian bowler Riley Meredith did the most damage, taking 4-27 from his eight-over allocation as Middlesex were skittled out for 135, with Luke Hollman’s 38 their top score.

After useful early knocks from George Thomas and Andrew Umeed, Lewis Goldsworthy and James Rew, unbeaten on 61 and 43 respectively, completed the job for Somerset.

Lancashire and Sussex, the last two teams without a victory heading into Sunday’s round of fixtures – both broke their ducks.

Needing 12 runs to win off the last over, Northamptonshire were foiled by the tight bowing of the ***********-South ******** Chris Green that included the wicket of Gus Miller to help Lancashire to victory by four runs at Wantage Road.

Tom Alsop hit 108 not out to propel Sussex to a six-wicket win over Surrey in Hove with Ollie Robinson grabbing three wickets.

Warwickshire slipped to their One Day Cup defeat of the season after Yorkshire won their Group B meeting in Rugby by six wickets.

Set a target of 243, the Vikings made light work of the home ******* with William Luxton’s unbeaten 105 easing them to 246 with 33 ****** remaining.

Opener Harry Duke contributed a brisk 60, while George Hill took six wickets for 28 runs, although Warwickshire did not lose ground in the table as Glamorgan also fell to a maiden loss.

The group leaders were edged by nine runs by Leicestershire as their clash at the Uptonsteel County Ground was brought to a thrilling conclusion.

Dan Douthwaite was caught on 61 runs as Roman Walker struck in the penultimate over, just as it looked like Glamorgan would reach their target of 272.

Second-placed Worcestershire coasted to an eight-wicket victory over Hampshire at New Road, the visitors let down by an early batting collapse.

Durham continue to snap at both counties’ heals after beating Kent by seven runs in Canterbury, Ben McKinney emerging as their hero of the day with a classy 115 from 116 ******.

Essex made easy work of their target of 219 to topple Nottinghamshire by seven wickets at Trent Bridge.

Neither side has set the competition alight but the Eagles were comfortable winners with several star performers, Jamal Richards taking five wickets, while Robin Das and Noah Thain amassed 100 and 83 runs apiece.
