Elden Ring’s Hidetaka Miyazaki Has Some Explaining to Do as He Pulled a Marvel With the Shadow of the Erdtree Cinematic Trailer With One Huge Detail Being Omitted (and Never Explained)

Elden Ring fans are no strangers to cryptic storytelling, but Hidetaka Miyazaki might’ve pulled a fast one on fans with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

When the cinematic story trailer dropped, it was packed with hints and teasers that had fans theorizing for months. Some of those burning questions have been answered, while others remain unanswered. This includes a huge question about St Trina.

St. Trina Still Is a Question Mark in the Elden Ring Lore

When the cinematic trailer for the Elden Ring DLC first dropped, there was a lot to digest. The lore hints were vague, the visuals were stunning, and the whole thing felt like a fever dream—FromSoftware had done it again.

One moment in particular caught everyone’s attention: the scene where Miquella, seemingly abandons everything—his golden flesh, his strength, his fate. In this process, he casts aside St. Trina, an aspect of his being.

As this happens, we see her falling into the Stone Coffin Fissure area from the Elden Ring DLC, looking very much like a human.

For the most part, everyone was focused on solving the ******* picture; Who was she, what’s her purpose, what part does she play in the story, and so on.

Post-DLC fervor, though, this Redditor poses a question that doesn’t seem to be answered anywhere else.

When we encounter her in-game, she’s deep down in the fissure, rooted into the earth, looking like a flower that hasn’t bloomed yet. Her face and arms are still there, but the rest of her is a flowery mass.

Why does she look so different from her trailer appearance?

The Possible Reasons Behind This Odd Design Choice

There are some interesting responses to OP’s question. Miyazaki didn’t include a conclusive answer within the game (or it’s undiscovered as of now), but there are some plausible theories we can form using what the game has told us until now.

One reply suggests that Trina’s flowery state is her trying to recover from being violently ripped from Miquella’s being. This is supported by some items we find in her area that suggest she was deeply wounded in the process.

Another reply reveals that cut content from the base game has a whole quest about a loyal follower of Trina named Rico.

Seems like the reveal about Trina being part of Miquella was supposed to be in the base game, which makes sense considering what Miyazaki revealed about the DLC earlier this year.

A kind Redditor sums up all the possible theories around her appearance. Aside from the ones covered previously, there’s also the possibility that the cinematic was a “mythical rendering” of her story, or she appears as a human in people’s dreams.

Whatever the reason might be, her in-game appearance is certainly one that’ll stun you when you encounter it.
