Arcade Classics and Promises More to Come

One of the most unexpected and beloved announcements this year took place during the June Nintendo Direct, when Capcom surprisingly unveiled the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics

This collection brings together six iconic games that ***** the foundation for the beloved Versus series, including the legendary Marvel vs Capcom 2. Fans of the series were very happy, as this collection could also be the first step towards a revival of the series.

with IGN and shared insights into how this collection came to be, and the importance of its release for the future of the Versus series.

The Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection has been in development for several years, with the developer engaging in discussions with Marvel for quite some time now.

Matsumoto shared that initially, the opportunity to release this collection didn’t present itself, but after persistent efforts and positive collaborations with Marvel, the collection finally became a reality. He shared:

We want all our classic games to be available for modern consoles because we just want to be able to reach as many people who may have never had the opportunity to play these games back in the day. So we constantly think forward and we want to make sure that it’s as accessible as possible for all audiences.

Matsumoto emphasized that this collection is not just about nostalgia. It’s part of a larger vision that the developer has for the Versus series and their other legacy fighting games. It is keenly aware of the demand from fans for re-releases of classic titles on modern platforms, like with the upcoming ***** Rising Deluxe Remaster.

This collection is seen as a way to introduce these amazing games to a new generation of players who may have never had the chance to experience them since they were never ported or remastered before. By doing so, it hopes to reignite interest in the series and pave the way for future projects, likely a new entry in the franchise.

Matsumoto also mentioned that they are constantly thinking ahead, aiming to make these games available on modern consoles to reach a broader and newer audience.

The hype and fan requests surrounding the Marvel vs Capcom series have given the developer the confidence to continue exploring the potential of the Versus series, and they are already considering other legacy titles for future releases.

Matsumoto confirmed that the developer has big dreams for the series and that re-releasing these classic titles is just the beginning. The success of this collection could very well determine the future of the series, as it has the potential to re-energize the community and attract brand-new players

While developing a brand new Versus title would require collaboration with other parties and careful planning, the developer is optimistic about the future and is sure that they can pull it off.

The developer’s recent efforts with both the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection and Street Fighter 6 just highlight their commitment to keeping their fighting game legacy alive and relevant, with great new content and updates.
