Lower ***** near Redding closes Highway 299, other roads

A ***** that broke out Saturday west of Redding has forced evacuations and several road closures in the historic community of Shasta and nearby areas. Too, Highway 299 is closed in both directions while firefighters try to bring the ***** under control.

The ***** broke out in the area of Lower Springs Road and Eureka Way in Shasta. As of 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the ***** had grown to 110 acres.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has ordered much of the community of Shasta to evacuate. Evacuation warnings also are in effect further west and north in the Keswick area. For a map of evacuations,

Highway 299 at Rock Creek Road

Iron Mountain Road at Keswick Dam

Lower Springs Road at Swasey Drive

Swasey Drive at Placer Road

Swasey Drive at Red Bluff Road
