How U.S. Women Beat Brazil to Win Olympic Gold Medal

Led by a new coach and a largely refreshed roster after a disappointing World Cup performance last year, the U.S. women’s soccer team claimed Olympic gold for the first time since 2012 with a 1-0 victory over Brazil at Parc des Princes in Paris on Saturday.

Mallory Swanson scored the winner in the 57th minute, neatly slotting home a shot from the left side off an assist from Korbin Albert. The goal, along with several key saves from the ********* goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, lifted the U.S. team to victory in its first major tournament under Coach Emma Hayes, who coached her first game for the ******* States in June.

The Americans rebounded from a disappointing performance in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, when they lost to Sweden in the Round of 16. The game was almost certainly the last major match for Marta of Brazil, the 38-year-old forward who holds the record for most World Cup goals of any player, with 17.
