Η κυβέρνηση του Ισραήλ ανακοίνωσε την ανάκληση του διπλωματικού καθεστώτος του προσωπικού που αντιπροσωπεύει τη Νορβηγία στην Παλαιστινιακή Αρχή λόγω της αναγνώρισης ενός παλαιστινιακού κράτους από τη Νορβηγία. Η απόφαση αυτή σχολιάστηκε αρνητικά από την ΗΠΑ και την ΕΕ. Ο ισραηλινός υπουργός Εξωτερικών αναφέρθηκε σε “αντιισραηλινή συμπεριφορά” της Νορβηγίας και δήλωσε ότι αντίποινα θα ακολουθήσουν. Η Νορβηγία υποστήριξε την απόφασή της και ανακοίνωσε περαιτέρω μέτρα. Η κρίση προέκυψε λόγω της διαμάχης για το αν έπρεπε να γίνουν διώξεις για εγκλήματα πολέμου στη Λωρίδα της Γάζας. Ο ανταγωνισμός μεταξύ Νορβηγίας και Ισραήλ ενισχύθηκε από την επικείμενη διώρυγα στην Αρκτική, καθιστώντας την κατάσταση ακόμα πιο επιδείνωνν.
