Το Copa America του 1999 ήταν η διοργάνωση που συνέδεσε τους αντιπάλους, Ντιέγκο Αλόνσο και Πάμπλο Γκαρσία, στην Ελλάδα. Οι δύο προπονητές, με τον Αλόνσο στον Παναθηναϊκό και τον Γκαρσία στον Ατρόμητο, θα συναντηθούν στην 13η αγωνιστική του Πρωταθλήματος. Η σχέση τους ξεκίνησε στο Copa America του 1999, που έγινε στην Παραγουάη και είδε την Ουρουγουάη φτάνοντας στον τελικό, αλλά να ηττηθεί από τη Βραζιλία. Μετά από αυτή τη διοργάνωση, ο Αλόνσο απέκτησε θέση στην Εθνική Ουρουγουάης, ενώ ο Γκαρσία είχε ήδη κάνει τα πρώτα του βήματα εκεί. Οι δύο προπονητές στις στήλες του Copa America συνεχίζουν να συναντώνται στα ελληνικά γήπεδα, με πολύ προϊστορία πίσω τους.
