The 15 per cent pay rise for nearly 200,000 childcare educators has been welcomed as a stop-gap to stem workforce losses but advocates for the sector warn it is time for governments to stop tinkering with the system.

The Government announced on Thursday a $3.6 billion pay rise for the female-dominated workforce, with the first stage to flow into pay packets before Christmas.
