What’s more, the developer has two more surprises planned for Summer, so there’s still something coming even though the major update is scheduled for sometime in 2025. PlayThunk also confirmed that Balatro has officially sold over two million units across all platforms, making it one of the best-selling titles of 2024.

Balatro has already inspired more developers to put their spin on existing card games, and we’ve seen similar titles pop up recently like Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers which is a roguelike spin on Blackjack.

We’re excited to see what LocalThunk has planned for Balatro, and how far they can take the roguelike aspect. Even though Balatro is Poker-themed, it’s not limited by the existing game, and there’s already enough complexity thanks to its plethora of Joker cards that further modify runs and radically change strategies.
