Bucktail ***** at almost 4,000 acres – heading away from town

) — Only about 10 miles away from Nucla and Naturita, two small towns west of Ridgway, flames engulf thick vegetation and dense trees in steep, sloping hills.

Interagency Dispatch Public Information Officer for the Bucktail ***** Glen Sacket tells WesternSlopeNow six crews, three engines, three air resources and more total over 150 people fighting this wildfire and tearing down brush lines in front of it.

The ***** started Aug. 1 and continues to *****. The cause is yet to be determined. It spread a blazing hundreds of acres per hour on Aug. 1, but now has slowed to a couple hundred acres per day.

As of Monday, the ***** is just under 4,000 acres and 7% contained – however, no communities or houses are evacuated as the ***** continues to move away from the small towns.

Monday afternoon did bring a little bit of rain, though not enough to tame the *****.

Nucla local and store manager Everett says he saw firsthand the locals jump into action – buying eggs and other food to feed the men on the front lines.

Naturita Town Clerk Diana Starks tells WesternSlopeNow it’s impossible to overlook the burning landscape and stuffy, smoke-filled air.

And to add to the pressure, another ***** broke out roughly 20 miles away Monday afternoon.

Little is known about this small ***** right now, but one of the helicopters initially helping with the 3,700-acre Bucktail ***** immediately started to drop water on the smaller one.
