Kamala Harris and Tim Walz speak at Pennsylvania rally after Democrat vice president running mate announced

Vice President Kamala Harris has spoken at a rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, walking out with her newly announced running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

“I launched my campaign for the President of the ******* States a mere two weeks ago,” Ms Harris said.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind! And just last night, the delegates to the Democratic National Convention finished voting. And so I stand before you today to proudly announce I am now officially the Democratic nominee for President of the ******* States.”

The crowd cheered as Ms Harris stood on stage with Mr Walz standing by her side.

“Now, we have some work to do,” she said.

“We need to move to the General Election and win that. We also need to level-set. We are the underdogs in this race. But we have the momentum, and I know exactly what we are up against.”

Ms Harris went on to speak about her time before being elected vice president, saying she was elected attorney general and was a district attorney before that. The story has become a mainstay of Ms Harris’s campaign.

“I know Donald Trump’s type,” Ms Harris said

The crowd then started cheering “Lock him up. Lock him up.”

Ms Harris asked the rally to “hold on” explaining that: “This campaign, our campaign, is not just a ****** against Donald Trump. Our campaign, this campaign, is a ****** for the future.”

When Ms Harris first spoke of Mr Walz in front of the Pennsylvanian crowd, they erupted with cheers for the newly announced vice president candidate.

“Since the day that I announced my candidacy, I set out to find a partner who can help build this brighter future,” Harris said to an excited crowd.

”I found such a leader: Governor Tim Walz of the great state of Minnesota.”

Mr Walz appeared overcome by the response from the crowd, cheering and waving signs saying “Harris, Walz” and “We win”.

“Thank you Madam Vice-President for the trust you put in me, but maybe more so, thank you for bringing back the joy,” Mr Walz said when he took the floor.

“I’m thrilled to be on this journey with you and Doug, this incredible journey.”
