Geraldton detectives are searching for a group of young suspects after a ******* backpacker was left with a gash to the head when he was attacked with a gardening tool at a public ******* block.

Police allege about 10.40pm on Monday, a group of about four or five young males wearing face coverings approached a 24-year-old man in a ******* block on Kempton Street in Bluff Point.
