Reports from local media indicated she then visited Disneyland instead of cheering on her compatriots in the pool, with a statement from Paraguayan Olympic Committee chief Larissa Schaerer confirming she had been sent home.

“Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay,” the statement reads.

“We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes’ Village.”

Alonso is reportedly the second athlete to be sent home from the village so far at the Games, with Brazilian swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira reportedly made to leave after sneaking out of the village to enjoy a night out with her partner.
