Η ερευνητική ομάδα του Osaka Metropolitan University, με επικεφαλής την Akiko Kojima-Yuasa, πραγματοποίησε μελέτη επί της σωματικής επίδρασης των πολυφαινολών Ecklonia στην πρόληψη της νόσου του Πάρκινσον. Κατά την έρευνα, ποντίκια με Πάρκινσον υποβλήθηκαν σε δύο είδη τεστ κινητικής λειτουργίας, λαμβάνοντας πρώτα τα αντιοξειδωτικά και στη συνέχεια ροτενόνη. Τα αποτελέσματα έδειξαν ότι η κινητική λειτουργία που επηρεάστηκε από τη χορήγηση ροτενόνης αποκαταστάθηκε. Επιπλέον, παρατηρήθηκε βελτίωση στην κινητική λειτουργία των εντέρων και στη δομή του βλεννογόνου του παχέος εντέρου. Πειράματα που ακολούθησαν επιβεβαίωσαν τη βιοχημική αλληλεπίδραση της Ecklonia cava στην προληπτική αντιμετώπιση της νόσου. Υπάρχει αισιοδοξία ότι τα αντιοξειδωτικά αυτά μπορούν να είναι αποτελεσματικά στην πρόληψη της νόσου του Πάρκινσον.
