Ο Βαγγέλης Τάβος εξελέγη δήμαρχος Χειμάρρας με ποσοστό 58,62% και 5.022 ψήφους, ενώ ο αντίπαλός του, Πέτρος Γκικουρίας, συγκέντρωσε 41,38% και 3.545 ψήφους. Οι εκλογές πραγματοποιήθηκαν για την ανάδειξη διαδόχου της φυλακισμένης πρώην δημάρχου Φρέντι Μπελέρη. Ο Τάβος υποσχέθηκε αύξηση στη συνεργασία μεταξύ Αλβανίας και Ελλάδας και προσκάλεσε τον Γκικουρία να αποδεχθεί τη θέση του αντιδημάρχου. Η ανακοίνωσή του έγινε πριν το κλείσιμο των καλπών, ευχαριστώντας τους κατοίκους για την εμπιστοσύνη τους. Το αποτέλεσμα έχει μεγάλη σημασία για την τοπική κοινότητα και τις σχέσεις μεταξύ των δύο χωρών. Λεπτομέρειες για το νέο δήμαρχο και τα σχέδιά του αναμένονται σύντομα.
