Heat returns while Debby passes east of the Tennessee Valley

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — It has been a pleasant weekend for the area with plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures.

Heading into the coming week, the excessive heat and humidity will continue to build across the region and a tropical system will track to the east of us.

The fourth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season formed Saturday evening and is forecast to strengthen to a category one hurricane before making landfall in Florida.

While we won’t see direct impacts from the tropical system, those who live east of I-65 will have the best chance for an isolated pop-up shower. The best chance for these to develop would be during the daytime heating hours.

An upper-level ridge above the surface will expand from the west filtering, trapping the heat and humidity at the surface.

This upper-level ridge building into the region aloft will also limit Debby’s impacts on the area. The area of high pressure will act as a boundary helping to keep the bulk of the rain activity associated with Debby to the east.

The increase in moisture content will make it uncomfortable and enhance the heat index values on Tuesday and Wednesday.

High temperatures by midweek are forecast to warm well into the upper 90s and some locations may hit 100. With dew points expected to rise into the 70s, the heat index values will range from 100 to 105 degrees.
