Fond du Lac County pursuit ends after suspect turns onto *****-end road

TOWNSHIP OF EMPIRE – A 1.5-mile pursuit in Fond du Lac County Sunday afternoon that reached speeds of 126 mph ended after the suspect turned onto a *****-end road.

, the pursuit began at around 12:44 p.m. Aug. 4 after a sheriff’s deputy observed a red Toyota Camry traveling at a high speed eastbound on State 23 near County UU in town of Empire.

The deputy activated his radar unit and obtained a speed of 126 mph in a 65 mph zone, the sheriff’s office said.

The deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop by activating his emergency lights and siren.

As the deputy attempted to close the distance on the vehicle, the driver made an immediate turn onto Richards Road, which is a *****-end road.

The driver tried to evade the deputy by driving into the back yard of a private residence on Richards Road, the sheriff’s office said.

Witnesses in the area directed the deputy to the location of the suspect near the private residence and took him into custody without incident.

The suspect was not known to the private residence.

The incident resulted in no reports of damage or injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver, a 26-year-old Manitowoc man, is being held at Fond du Lac County Jail on suspicion of charges of felony fleeing and eluding and second-degree reckless endangerment. He was also cited for several traffic and county ordinance violations, the sheriff’s office said.
