Strahan, ***** bag six goals each in Diorites’ big win against Kambalda

Mines Rovers will be close to full strength for a big round 18 clash this weekend in the Goldfields Football League after they emerged from Saturday’s one-sided win against Kambalda, 30.22 (202) to 2.3 (15), without any major injury concerns.

The Diorites boasted 10 goal kickers at Kambalda West Oval and piled on 17 second-half goals to grab a 10th win.

Jordan Strahan and Brad ***** led the charge, each with six goals, as the blue-and-******* prepare to battle an in-form Kalgoorlie this Saturday.

For Strahan, it has been business as usual since rejoining the squad before the June 30 clearance deadline.

Strahan’s three games since returning have yielded 13 goals, after booting 37 goals in 10 games for Harvey in the South-West Football League.

Delson Trott, Sam Burge and Nick Reghenzani each contributed four goals after the side led at half-time by 77 points.

Mines Rovers are entrenched in second place with three rounds left of the qualifying series.

But they face a danger game this Saturday against the fourth-placed Roos who have upset their rivals in the past two encounters and chase a fourth win in five matches.

“We’re all good (injury-wise) which is the most important thing,” Mines Rovers coach Marc Johnstone said.

“We came away injury-free and rested-up a couple of boys in the last quarter, ahead of what I hope will be a big week on the training track.

“Ideally that equates to putting our best forward against Kalgoorlie, who’ve had our measure the last couple of times.

“Hopefully we’ve learned a few lessons from that.”

Midfielder Logan Hughes is expected back for the Diorites’ round 20 clash against Railways.

Hughes has been restricted to four games since joining Mines Rovers from Boulder.

His last game was against his former club in round six.
