Η ελληνική ομάδα υδατοσφαίρισης επικράτησε της Γαλλίας με 11-4 σε ένα εντυπωσιακό παιχνίδι και προκρίθηκε στα προημιτελικά του Ολυμπιακού τουρνουά. Με καταπληκτική άμυνα και σερί 8-1 στις τελευταίες περιόδους, η Ελλάδα διαλύει την αντίπαλη ομάδα. Αν και η ελληνική ομάδα είχε δυσκολίες στην επίθεση της, κατάφερε να σκοράρει με την Ξενάκη και την Πλευρίτου. Η άμυνά της όμως ήταν αδιάσειστη, με τη γαλλική ομάδα να είναι ανίκητη για περίπου 9 λεπτά. Οι Γαλλίδες προσπάθησαν να αντισταθούν, αλλά η αντίστροφή επίθεση της Ελλάδας τις ξεπερνά. Σε μια μαγική τρίτη περίοδο, η Ελλάδα επιτυγχάνει με μαζικά γκολ την πρόκριση. Στην τέταρτη περίοδο, με συνεχή γκολ από την Πλευρίτου και την Ξενάκη, καθώς και με εξαιρετική άμυνα, η Ελλάδα εξασφαλίζει την πρόκριση με σκορ 11-4.
