Paris Olympics 2024: Jess Fox’s Olympic over after brutal Kayak Cross eliminator

Australia’s golden girl Jess Fox’s hopes of three gold medals are gone in agonising fashion as her sister Noemie raced into the quarterfinals of the Women’s Kayak Cross.

Fox has done nothing but strike gold in Paris, but her run came to an end on Sunday despite a blistering comeback very nearly overcoming a rough start.

The Kayak Cross consists of four competitors racing each other down an obstacle course, including a bar that requires a barrel roll to get past.

Each kayaker is dropped into the water from an elevated starting platform, and the drop did Fox no favours as she bounced on the landing.

Meanwhile, her sister raced into the lead with a perfect launch, never looking back as she showed the Fox power.

But for Jess, she was the hunted.

Martina Wegman of the Netherlands and Maialen Chourraut of Spain pushed into the Aussie star, forcing her wide and into the first pylons.

She was last through the barrel roll, but just two sections later, she was back fighting for the second qualification spot.

Coming to the last pylon, she took the advantageous inside line in the upstream but just got stuck as Chourraut partially blocked her run.

It ended her steaming comeback *****, and as her sister crossed the line, the finality of the result hit the gold medallist.

She eased to the end in fourth.

Earlier in the day, Tim Anderson blitzed his heat with a breath-taking barrel roll that left the field for ***** as Tristan Carter also qualified for tomorrow’s quarterfinals runs in the men’s event.
