North Kansas City family seeking revenge against porch pirate

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One Northland family is hoping to get revenge on a porch pirate, after having more than $750 in rare custom car parts stolen from their porch in late June.

Emma Davis was shocked at first.

“Oh, my gosh, I can’t believe this happened to us. You see about it all the time. But it happened to us,” she remembers.

She called the police, who filed a report on the incident. She remembered being frustrated that there wasn’t more that they could do, so she decided to set a trap for the thief.

“Because I just knew that they were just going to make a case, file it as an incident report and carry on,” said Davis.

“But I just had this gut feeling that he was going to be back,” she said.

In talking with other neighbors, she realized the same car and the same person had been stealing packages from other houses.

So she made a pair of fake packages, one that had a tequila bottle filled with water, another, containing a blanket full of glitter and an Apple AirTag. The packages sat on the porch for more than a month until last Wednesday. Less than 2 minutes after pulling out of her driveway, she got a notification from her Ring cameras.

“I just started shaking. And I called my husband, and I was like, ‘The packages! The packages! He came!’ Like, you’re terrified. But also, like, I knew it! And he came. I knew he was going to come back,” she said.

Davis and her husband tracked the car while on the phone with police, eventually ending up at a home in Kansas City, Kansas. They worked with the Kansas City Missouri and Kansas City Kansas police departments to get their belongings back, unfortunately, they have not recovered them yet.

Davis says that she knows why the thief targeted her neighborhood.

“So, they’re coming back because they know that there are people out there that are leaving their packages out there. They’re having wins, they’re going home with large amounts of items,” Davis said.

lockers, to prevent the stealing from happening again.

“Until they get caught or until they’re not getting items anymore, they’re going to continue to come back.”
