Fallout 76’s ‘Milepost Zero’ Will Change How You Play The Game

Milepost Zero is the next big Fallout 76 update, and it’s available now as a preview-based product in the PTS. In July, Bethesda Game Studios revealed what’s coming in Milepost Zero, but a new interview with the creative director of the title has confirmed how the super-sized update will change how you play Fallout 76.

Breaking the Cycle

In an interview with PCGamesN, Jon Rush, the creative director of Fallout 76, broke down the new gameplay loop being established in Milepost Zero. If you’re over level 20, you’ll be able to build and run your own outposts, which act similarly to a C.A.M.P. in how they can be customised and upgraded.

Once you’ve built an outpost, you’ll be able to run caravan routes across Appalachia – or you can lean on other players and help them run theirs. Speaking

, Rush explained that this design is to break the ‘monotony’ of players going ‘from event to event to event’:

What caravans do is act as an event you can do in between those as you’re waiting. Or if you want to get your friends together and farm it, you can do that as well. The caravanning keeps the action from going event, wait, event, wait, event – it just keeps it more snappy. And the beauty of it is that you can hop in on somebody else’s that’s already running and you can still get rewards if it’s successful, or you can go make your own and try to get folks to join you.

It’s a new dynamic that’ll change how you play Fallout 76, giving you a repeatable task that you can farm as often as you want. That’s not all that’s coming with Milepost Zero, though – Bethesda also outlined changes to Legendary weapons, C.A.M.P. showcase mechanics, and other world events. It’s set to be one of the biggest Fallout 76 updates ever.
