Η Τζουλιέν Αλφρεντ από τη Σάντα Λουτσία κατέκτησε το χρυσό μετάλλιο στους 100μ. στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Παρισιού με εντυπωσιακό χρόνο 10.72. Η νεαρή σπρίντερ αφήνοντας πίσω τις αντίπαλές της, έγραψε ιστορία για τη μικρή χώρα της Καραϊβικής. Μετά την αποδεκάτιση της Τζαμαϊκανής dream team, η φαβορί της κούρσας, Σα΄Κάρι Ρίτσαρντσον, κατέληξε στη δεύτερη θέση, ενώ η Μελίσα Τζέφερσον, επίσης από τις ΗΠΑ, συμπλήρωσε το βάθρο. Ο τελικός στα 100μ. γυναικών κατέληξε με την Αλφρεντ στην πρώτη θέση, ακολουθούμενη από τη Ρίτσαρντσον και την Τζέφερσον.
