Η Κάμαλα Χάρις, η οποία είναι η πρώτη μαύρη υποψήφια για την προεδρία των ΗΠΑ, έλαβε τον αναγκαίο αριθμό ψήφων από τους εκλέκτορες του Δημοκρατικού κόμματος. Η είδηση ανακοινώθηκε από τον πρόεδρο της Εθνικής Επιτροπής των Δημοκρατιών και η Χάρις δήλωσε ότι αισθάνεται τιμή που έλαβε την υποστήριξη αυτή. Η συγκέντρωση ψήφων έγινε μέσω διαδικτυακής ψηφοφορίας, όπου η Χάρις κατάφερε να ξεπεράσει το απαιτούμενο όριο ψήφων. Η υποψήφια δήλωσε ότι θα αποδεχτεί επίσημα το χρίσμα στο συνέδριο του κόμματος που θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο Σικάγο τον Αύγουστο. Η είδηση έχει προκαλέσει αναταραχή και αναμένονται περισσότερες εξελίξεις στο θέμα.
