Η Ελληνική κωπηλασία σημείωσε μεγάλη επιτυχία στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες, καθώς οι αθλητές Παπακωνσταντίνου και Γκαϊδάτζης κατέκτησαν το χάλκινο μετάλλιο στο σκιφ ελαφρών βαρών Ανδρών. Λίγα λεπτά αργότερα, η Φίτσιου και Κοντού κατέκτησαν το χάλκινο μετάλλιο στην ίδια κατηγορία των Γυναικών, σε μια εκπληκτική εμφάνιση με αντεπίθεση στα τελευταία μέτρα της κούρσας. Αυτό ήταν το έκτο μετάλλιο για την ελληνική κωπηλασία στην ιστορία των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων. Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι οι αθλητές Παπακωνσταντίνου και Γκαϊδάτζης ήταν το πέμπτο μετάλλιο για την κωπηλασία στην εν λόγω διοργάνωση. Με αυτές τις επιτυχίες, η Ελλάδα αποδεικνύει τον αθλητισμό και την αντιστοιχία της στη διεθνή αρένα του αθλητισμού.
