Salvation Army Community Center halts after-school program, other programs remain ongoing

Savannah’s Salvation Army Community Center on Bee Road has had to temporarily suspend its after-school program due to a lack of funding. The temporary suspension will impact 12 students from four separate families, according to Savannah Corps Officer Major Jason Smith.

The center ******** open and other programs such as its senior program, music program and evening dinners are still ongoing. The after-school program has been without a direct funding source for three years, and donations are in a down *******, Smith said.

Those factors led to the after-school program being “not viable” at this time. The community center has worked with other local after-school providers to refer impacted families.

“Despite this particular setback, Salvation Army Savannah ******** steadfast in our commitment to serving those in need,” Smith said. “We will continue to explore avenues for additional funding and seek collaboration with local organizations to support our community.”
