( This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up ) – The City of Fresno has been awarded $230 million by Shell Oil Company from a lawsuit that was filed in 2007, according to Fresno’s City Attorney Office. The attorney’s office says this settlement is the largest known settlement of its kind in the country for this type of environmental claim. On March 21, 2007, officials say that’s when the city filed a lawsuit against manufacturers Shell Oil Company, Dow Chemical Company, and other distributor defendants for reimbursement of the cost of removal of TCP from city drinking water wells. Fresno’s City Attorney Andrew Janz says that this settlement ensures the city will be able to return the contaminated wells back into the service. “I want to thank my legal team led by Mike Axline for their unwavering dedication to this difficultcase for the last 16 years,” Janz said. Officials say the settlement will be earmarked for cleanup and mitigation of contaminated wellsbelonging to the City of Fresno over a 10-year *******. According to officials, all existing watersources do not rely on the out-of-service wells that were involved in the lawsuit. Copyright 2024 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
