Η Αντιγόνη Ντρισμπιώτη ανακοίνωσε με δάκρυα στα μάτια ότι οι Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες ήταν η τελευταία της συμμετοχή σε αθλητικό γεγονός αυτού του μεγέθους. Αναφέροντας ότι δεν μπορεί να συγκρατήσει τα συναισθήματά της, εξέφρασε τη χαρά της για την καλή της εμφάνιση στον τελικό των 20χλμ βάδην. Παράλληλα, μίλησε για τον αναμεικτο χαρακτήρα των συναισθημάτων που βιώνει ένας αθλητής, όπως τη χαρά, τη συγκίνηση, την ευτυχία και την πίκρα, χωρίς να μπορεί να τα μοιραστεί. Εξήγησε ότι αν και είναι έτοιμη να συνεχίσει, πιστεύει ότι ήρθε η στιγμή να σταματήσει. Μετά από τη συγκινητική της ανακοίνωση, η Αντιγόνη Ντρισμπιώτη έλαβε την αναγνώριση και τον σεβασμό όλων για την προσφορά της στον αθλητισμό.
