Record numbers for 50th celebration of Chevron’s City to Surf for Activ

One of WA’s longest-running charity events celebrated its 50th anniversary over the weekend, reaching record numbers participating in the Chevron City to Surf for Activ in Karratha.

Searipple Park was painted in blue and orange on July 28 as nearly 600 participants walked, ran, and rolled through the streets of Karratha on either the 4km or 12km course.

Activ executive director Kelly Smith, who ran the 4km course, said all funds raised will be going directly into improving the lives of West Australians living with disability.

“We are so grateful to the Karratha community who came together to celebrate and take part in a really fun event for all ages – the community feel was incredible and there was just such a joyful vibe among all participants,” she said.

“It was great to see so many families, local workers and even Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott taking part too!

“The winners clocked some really impressive times.”

Chevron Australia managing counsel and Team Chevron captain Peter McNally said he was honoured to sound the starting *****.

“We continue to see more and more people from the Pilbara taking part in the Karratha event – it’s great to see so many locals, and others who drive in for the event, returning as well as welcoming new faces,” he said.

“The Chevron City to Surf for Activ is one of WA’s most iconic community events and Chevron Australia is proud to continue to work with Activ to bring it to life.

“While event day is always great, we also see the impacts of people’s participation and fundraising filter through to the incredible services and supports Activ provides people living with disability in WA.

“All participants should be proud of the impact they are making to the lives of others.

“Thank you again to Activ Foundation’s team for putting on a seamless event that was enjoyed by all – we look forward to round two at the Perth event in a few weeks’ time.”

Ms Smith passed on a huge thanks to event sponsors Chevron Australia, the City of Karratha, Good Grocer Karratha, and Life & Soul Health Club.

She said participants can continue their post-event high by registering for next year’s event now.

“Keep the momentum going and register for next year’s Chevron City to Surf for Activ now – let’s see if we can beat this year’s record and continue improving the lives of West *********** together” she said.
