The luxury yacht where the bodies of a man and a woman were discovered is reportedly worth $300,000.

Police were called to the yacht named “Taloha” at Tunks Park in Cammeray about 9pm on Wednesday due to concerns for the ******** of the man and woman on-board.

Water police boarded the more than 14m boat to find the bodies of the pair, believed to be aged in their early 60s.

The boat is equipped with a large “entertainers cockpit”, three double cabins and two separate bathrooms as well as mahogany fittings and a stone bench galley, according to a previous online listing.

The luxury yacht is described as a “roomy and very comfortable” vessel and was built by Hanse Yachts.

Speaking to media on Thursday, Detective Inspector Siobhan Munro confirmed the man who was found on-board was the vessel’s owner.

The yacht, which had previously competitively raced up Australia’s east coast, last sold in 2022, according to the Daily Mail.

The yacht’s registration was reportedly only renewed just four weeks ago.

Police have confirmed they are treating the deaths as suspicious as they are yet to determine how the pair *****.

Inspector Munro said police who boarded the boat on Wednesday evening smelt potential gas or fumes on the yacht that would form part of the investigation into the deaths.

A boating expert with knowledge of Taloha said the fumes smelt onboard could indicate a gas ***** from the cooking equipment in the galley or carbon monoxide from a heater or engine.

“Each vessel requires a gas certificate which needs to be renewed every 10 years,” he told the Daily Mail.

“(A gas *****) is not unheard of. It has happened before and (especially) if the boat was completely closed up because it was cold. What a terrible tragedy.”
