Η Μαρία Σάκκαρη αποκλείστηκε από τον Ολυμπιακό τουρνουά τένις των Αγώνων του Παρισιού στη φάση των “16” από την Ουκρανή Μάρτα Κοστιούκ. Η Ελληνίδα πρωταθλήτρια κατάφερε να κερδίσει το πρώτο σετ, αλλά στα επόμενα δύο σετ η αντίπαλός της ανέβασε την απόδοσή της και πέτυχε τη νίκη με 2-1 σετ συνολικά. Παρά τις προσπάθειές της, η Σάκκαρη δεν μπόρεσε να ανατρέψει το ματς, παρά το γεγονός ότι προσπάθησε να ισοφαρίσει στο τρίτο σετ. Μετά από ένα σκληρό αγώνα, η Κοστιούκ προκρίθηκε στα προημιτελικά, ενώ η Σάκκαρη αποχώρησε από την διοργάνωση. Η αντίπαλός της στα προημιτελικά θα είναι η Ντόνα Βέκιτς από την Κροατία. Παρά την ήττα, η συμμετοχή της Μαρίας Σάκκαρης στο τουρνουά αποτελεί έναν σημαντικό βήμα στην καριέρα της, δείχνοντας την ανόδο του ελληνικού τένις στη διεθνή σκηνή.
