Since the Skytop was revealed in May, it has set online forums abuzz with support from BMW fans and general observers alike, praising its gorgeous design and smooth lines – as well as the complete lack of a bucktooth kidney grille like many of the brand’s current models.

Unlike the M8 which can – legally at least – seat five occupants, the Skytop is a two-seater only, with the driver and passenger treated to a targa roof and retractable rear window.

Under the bonnet, there’s a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine under the bonnet, producing 460kW of power and 750Nm of torque, driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
