Yindjibarndi elder Allery Sandy has won this year’s best overall artwork at the 2024 Cossack Art Awards with the local artist going home $20,000 richer.

The judging panel of Sarah Elson, De Gillett Cox, and Steve Makse described her piece “Dry River Bed Burnt Country” as sophisticated and deeply evocative work.
