Aussie skiff duo Price and Haseldine seek second wind

Olivia Price and Evie Haseldine have enjoyed a successful second day in their skiff at Marseille marina, moving up to fifth but still praying for stronger winds to aid their push in the second half of their Olympic regatta.

Price, an experienced 31-year-old helm who won silver in the three-person keelboat at the 2012 Games, and her 21-year-old junior crew Haseldine enjoyed their best race of six so far when the Sydneysiders finished third in the last race of the day on Monday.

“We’re really happy with how we sailed today. It’s very tricky out there, we’ve had two light (wind) days so far,” said Price, who won bronze with Haseldine at last year’s world championships in their 49er FX.

“My legs are getting quite sore because there’s a lot of crouching out there, so it’s just about managing the heat and doing the best we can.”

The forecast is for stronger winds on Tuesday, and Price welcomes it.

“As Aussies, we love the wind. We’re looking forward to a couple of days of stretching the legs on the 49er FX,” she said.

The pair are fifth overall on a net 35 points, with the French duo of helm Sarah Steyaert and Charline Picon leading the way.

The *********** men didn’t have anywhere near as successful a day.

Jim Colley’s skiff, assisted by Shaun Connor, came home 14th, 10th and 10th in their three races, leaving them 16th of the 20 crews.

The New Zealand pair of Isaac McHardie and William McKenzie are in control of proceedings, winning two more of the the three races to go with the pair they also won on Sunday.

Only one race was completed in the men’s windsurfing because of the unfavourable weather conditions with Australia’s Grae Morris, son of former national champion Brett Morris, finishing 13th.
