5 Inferior Games That Took a Shot At a Better Game Via a Cheeky Easter Egg

Easter Eggs are one of the most fun elements to discover inside a video game. They can be references to previous games in the series, a reference to some other media, or simply the developers trolling the player.

Most of these elements are added to games to make the players feel rewarded when they see them. Sometimes, Easter Eggs serve a different purpose. These are five of them, which were added only to rattle the competition.

#5 Dying Light 2’s Resident Evil Easter Egg

Dying Light 2 was the successor to its crticially acclaimed and commercially successful predecessor. In one of the game’s missions, the player is tasked with finding, Leon and Chris, which are names that Resident Evil fans are incredibly familiar with.

However, after the player slashes and dashes their way to the two characters, Leon is found in a pathetic state and without spoiling what happens next. There is also confirmation of the character’s identities provided to the player shortly after.

However, in the later versions of the game the full names of Leon and Chris were changed so that the team could plausibly deny the reference. This was probably done as damage control, but further confirms the legitimacy of the Easter Egg.

#4 Driver 3’s GTA Easter Egg

Driver 3 was a title that unfortunately showed warning signs of the series’ decline. Moreover, the title’s performance was deprecated by gamers because it tried to openly and cheekily mock GTA Vice City.

When playing the game one can encounter a hostile NPC who wields a firearm and is named ‘Tommy Vermicelli’ a not-so-subtle wordplay on the Vice City protagonist.

To twist the ****** further the devs even gave the NPC an inflatable swimming arm band to mock him as he couldn’t swim in the GTA title. So, if making a disaster of a game wasn’t enough the devs went ahead and also insulted one of the best games to ever release.

#3 Duke Nukem Forever’s Halo Easter Egg

Duke Nukem Forever is a game known for having a lot of controversial and questionable elements, especially by today’s standards. Having released in 2011, the game continued the story of Duke Nukem; the series cheesy, ultra-macho protagonist known for brutally putting monsters out of their misery.

However, this time monsters weren’t the only ones who were subjected to shots fired by Nukem. In one of the missions, Duke’s team provides him with a green ‘power armor’ which is virtually identical to Master Chief’s armor from the Halo series.

After taking a distasteful shot at it, Duke, in his typical swagger, declines to wear it and his crew offers him a **** instead.

#2 Ghostrunner’s Fall Guys Easter Egg

Ghostrunner is the very definition of a fast-paced games. The action platform, despite being unforgiving sometimes, can be a fun game to play. While indulging in high-octane traversal in the game, eagle-eyed players will be able to spot a ‘Fall Guy’ from the casual Battle Royale Game, Fall Guys floating above the passage of water beneath them.

This was not even masked by the devs and was most certainly a jibe at the casual game that released during the same year as the game.

#1 Kingdom Come Deliverance’s The Witcher 3 Easter Egg

The title is one must play if they like action RPGs. Image Credits: Warhorse Studios, Prime Matter.

Kingdom Come Deliverance is a series with which the developers outdid themselves with the recreation of medieval Bohemia. Amid all of the horse riding and sword slashing there was a harmless reference made to arguably the best game created by the Polish studio, CD Projekt Red.

When visiting the stables in the action RPG, one can check out all of the horses and one of them is called ‘******’ which is also the name of Geralt’s Steed in The Witcher 3.

If one enquires about the horse from the stable’s owner. He tells that the horse has a mind of her own. And that she was was sold to him by an odd Polish fellow; who then got married and was worried that his missus would want to stuff the horse.

Which one of these Easter Eggs did you like best? Did we miss any obvious ones? We would love to know your thoughts on our list in the comments section below.
