Wolverine is one of the more notable X-Men characters after his rise to fame in the live-action franchise developed by 20th Century Fox. It was at a time when video game tie-ins to movies were thriving and one developer was way ahead of their time and gave the gaming community a decent interpretation.

Developing a video game for a character with rare conditions and capabilities can be a daunting task; however, Raven Software took on the challenge 15 years ago and left a serious impression. Much time has passed and fans are eager to see a new adaptation.

There was a time when video game tie-ins with movies were all the rage and Marvel Games was no exception from adapting older movies back then. The technology has advanced and modern game developers have improved and developed a better understanding of how to utilize certain characters like Insomniac Games with Marvel’s Spider-Man.

The developers gave fans a positive update regarding Marvel’s Wolverine, which could fill the void.

The superhero genre has dominated the box office for the past few years. The growing success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the prime example of how people in tight costumes can thrive in Hollywood. The game industry is now catching up and a handful of game developers immediately got to work, but fans took a trip down memory lane and rediscovered a hidden gem.

The gaming community cherished the brutal nature and combat mechanics of the video game adaptation of X-Men Origins: Wolverine; despite the movie falling short, the game was a redeeming factor and was way ahead of its time. The mature rating also allowed Raven Software to go crazy with the gore and make the character shine in his prime and feral state.

Other characters from the film ventured out and received video game adaptations a few years later. The Merc with the Mouth got a video game before a live-action movie and it allowed the players to embody the weird antics of Deadpool, and the recent success of the latest film is another factor as to why these characters deserve a decent video game series.

The gaming community has waited long enough for the perfect video game adaptation that showcases the character’s traits and attributes. It is time for other creatives to throw their hats in the rings and deliver an authentic and original experience.

If Raven Software could achieve a technical marvel like that 15 years ago, then Insomniac Games can easily surpass it. The developers had an incredible run with the Marvel’s Spider-Man series and will likely give the character the same level of care.

The R-rating did wonders for the recent Deadpool & Wolverine solo outings and could appeal to the more mature audience of the gaming community. Times have changed and developers shouldn’t be afraid to be bold and daring to deliver a new experience with characters that have flourished elsewhere.

Insomniac Games can give the gaming community a unique take on the beloved X-Man and build a new legacy outside of the shade of Hugh Jackman’s portrayal. Fans are hoping this new project will carry over mechanics from the past.
