24 NSW firefighters battle blaze on Parramatta Rd

Six ***** trucks and 24 firefighters were deployed to battle a shop blaze on one of Australia’s busiest city thoroughfares on Monday that disrupted traffic flows from about 1pm.

A ***** and Rescue NSW spokesman told NewsWire the crews raced to the ***** on Parramatta Rd at 1.10pm.

When the firefighters arrived, smoke was coming out of the shop and the crews put on airsets and entered the building to put out the *****.

The firefighters “quickly extinguished” the blaze, the spokesman said.

Eight people were evacuated from a unit above the shop and the two adjoining premises, he added.

The cause of the ***** is yet to be determined.

Parramatta Rd, a major thoroughfare linking the centre of the city to its western districts, was temporarily shut in both directions as the firefighters fought the blaze.

Live Traffic NSW shows a single westbound lane remained closed as of 2.21pm.
