Fremantle and West Coast both set to sport throwback jumpers as part of AFL’s Retro Round

Both WA clubs will sport a throwback jumper in their home games over the next two weekends as part of the AFL’s Retro Round.

Fremantle have unveiled their latest retro strip, to be worn in their clash with Geelong next Saturday, while West Coast will wear their own throwback kit in their date with Gold Coast at Optus Stadium on Friday night.

As part of their 30-year anniversary celebrations, the Dockers will don their traditional purple, red and green colour scheme featuring the famous white anchor across the front.

The jumper is the same one worn at home in the club’s inaugural AFL season in 1995, featuring in both their first game in WA against Essendon at the WACA Ground in round two and their first-ever home win over reigning grand finalists Geelong in round four.

It made its first return appearance as part of the club’s first Retro Round in 2019, where Aaron Sandilands famously chaired off Hayden Ballantyne in the two club legends’ final appearance at the top level.

The Eagles have already sported their own retro kit once this season, in their 26-point loss to Sydney in Gather Round.

The navy-and-gold jumper, which pays homage to the club’s 1995 kit, was chosen by members in a vote over the off-season, beating out the infamous ochre guernsey from the early 2000s.

A number of other clubs around the league are also getting into the spirit of the round, with Western Bulldogs changing their name to Footscray for the duration of the week.
