Στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες των Παρισίων, η Ιαπωνία βίωσε μια μεγάλη έκπληξη στο τζούντο όταν η πρωταθλήτρια και αήττητη από το 2019, Ούτα Αμπε, αποκλείστηκε στη φάση των 16 στην κατηγορία των -52 κιλών από την Ουζμπέκα Ντιγιόρα Κελντιγιόροβα. Η Αμπε, η οποία είναι τετράκις παγκόσμια πρωταθλήτρια και Ολυμπιονίκης στο Τόκιο, δεν μπορούσε να συνέλθει από την απογοήτευσή της, αλλά δέχτηκε την αποθέωση από τους φιλάθλους. Πριν από τρία χρόνια, η Αμπε είχε κάνει ιστορία κερδίζοντας τον υπέρτατο τίτλο την ίδια μέρα με τον αδελφό της, Χιφούμι Άμπε. Η αποκλειστική θριαμβολογία της Αμπε δεν εμπόδισε τη νέα γενιά αθλητών να δείξει τη δική της δύναμη και ταλέντο στον χώρο του τζούντο.
