Η Εθνική ομάδα μπάσκετ της Ελλάδας αντιμετώπισε τον Καναδά στην πρεμιέρα του Ολυμπιακού τουρνουά. Παρόλο που ο Γιάννης Αντετοκούνμπο και ο Κώστας Παπανικολάου συνέβαλαν με εντυπωσιακή απόδοση στην επίθεση, η ομάδα της Ελλάδας δεν κατάφερε να κερδίσει τον αγώνα. Παρά τις προσπάθειες να προσεγγίσει στο σκορ, η Εθνική δεν μπόρεσε να ανατρέψει την κατάσταση ενάντια στην αποτελεσματική επίθεση του Καναδά. Ο Γιάννης Αντετοκούνμπο έπαιζε εναντίον ολόκληρης της καναδικής πεντάδας, πετυχαίνοντας 25 πόντους. Παρά την αντίσταση στο τέλος του αγώνα, η Εθνική δεν κατάφερε να ανατρέψει τη διαφορά και έχασε τον αγώνα με 79-86. Ο επόμενος αντίπαλος της Εθνικής είναι η Ισπανία. Παρ’ όλα αυτά, η απόδοση των παικτών δεν ήταν αρκετή και η Ελλάδα πρέπει να βελτιωθεί στην επόμενη αναμέτρηση.
