Η NASA ανακοίνωσε ότι το ρόβερ Perseverance ανακάλυψε ένδειξεις ζωής στον Άρη πριν από δισεκατομμύρια χρόνια. Ένας βράχος που βρέθηκε καλυμμένος με κηλίδα φαίνεται να περιέχει οργανικές ενώσεις, υποδηλώνοντας ότι μπορεί να φιλοξένησε μικροβιακή ζωή. Το δείγμα βρέθηκε στο βόρειο άκρο του Neretva Vallis και περιλαμβάνει σίδηρο και φωσφορικά άλατα, χαρακτηριστικά των βράχων στη Γη με μικρόβια. Ωστόσο, είναι ακόμη νωρίς για συμπεράσματα καθώς οι επιστήμονες δεν αποκλείουν εναλλακτικές εξηγήσεις. Η NASA ελπίζει να φέρει τον βράχο στη Γη για περαιτέρω έρευνα, ενώ προειδοποιεί τους ανθρώπους να μην ενθουσιάζονται υπερβολικά. Πρόκειται για μια σημαντική ανακάλυψη που ανοίγει πόρτες σε νέες ερευνητικές δυνατότητες για τον Άρη.
