WA ******** Senator Michaelia Cash renews calls for CFMEU to be deregistered

WA ******** senator Michaelia Cash has renewed calls for the CFMEU to be deregistered, accusing the Albanese Government of being weak by not taking tough action on the construction union.

Senator Cash and WA ******** leader Libby Mettam on Saturday demanded Labor at a Federal and State level take stronger action against a union facing serious allegations across the country.

Senator Cash called on the Albanese Government to bring back the *********** Building and Construction Commission.

But ultimately, she said the union should be deregistered.

“This union has shown it is not fit and proper to represent the interests of its members,” Senator Cash said.

“The weakest possible response was to put parts of it (union) into administration.

“This union needs to be completely abolished and start again.

“The law enables you to do so.”

Federal Labor and States — apart from WA — have acted to suspend affiliation and block donations from their divisions of the CFMEU.

This follows allegations of criminality and links to bikie groups in east coast chapters of the union.

Pressure is also mounting on the WA Labor government to follow their eastern states counterparts, with The West *********** reporting that the members of the Master Builders Association WA had come forward making allegations of coercive behaviour and trespassing against the union.

Ms Mettam repeated calls for Labor Premier Roger Mr Cook to take tough action on the WA chapter of the CFMEU.

“It is only Roger Cook, only Rita Saffioti and only the WA Labor Government who aren’t taking action to disaffiliate themselves from this militant union,” Ms Mettam said.

“It is extraordinary that the Cook Labor Government plan to impose what’s considered Best Practice Industry Conditions; a policy that will engrain the CFMEU into decisions made on major projects in Western Australia.

“We will not allow the CFMEU in Western Australia to use major projects as an ATM.”
