John Lugg remembers well his first visit to the Kalgoorlie Racecourse from Melbourne in 1979 for the big races of the annual Race Round.

Like so many before him and after, he was struck by the myriad characters and atmosphere that in later years prompted an eventual move to the WA Goldfields.
