6v6 could return to Overwatch 2

If there are any Overwatch fans out there, they may be happy to hear that Blizzard it testing the waters of bringing back 6v6 into the free-to-play sequel, Overwatch 2. No doubt, it hopes to recapture the players it lost after the closure of the original Overwatch without anything to set itself apart from its precursor.

, game director Aaron Keller started up conversations around reintroducing 6v6. Multiple modes with the new PvP cap are being tested and could be a permanent thing if the results are good. The reason it isn’t a full-scale return is because while it’s a joke that the OG Overwatch and OW2 are basically the same game, it was still optimized around a different scale and additions to the game also don’t help, so it has to make sure it can play with the 12-player cap.

He also worries this will introduce longer wait times and open up “Pandora’s Box.” He says it’s possible people will deal with it, but says it’s still risky, considering the game’s had decent wait times since getting stabilized.

This feels kind of like it’s trying to rebuild an audience, especially as the game’s much-anticipated single player mode was scrapped, getting its only PvE mode’s missions held up, layoffs in the single player division, and wiping the last bit of PvE it had. We can’t blame Blizzard for wanting to revise its decisions while not doing what would actually get a bit more attention to the game, players didn’t accept the change because it was such a cool idea; it was forced on them and sought to also appease those who weren’t looking for a crazily competitive game, but still wanted the Overwatch experience.
