Giants lock in coach Kingsley until 2028

Adam Kingsley’s success in lifting Greater Western Sydney from the AFL doldrums has been rewarded, with the coach earning a three-year contract extension.

Kingsley, already signed for next year’s campaign, will remain at the helm of the Giants until at least the end of the 2028 season.

The former Port Adelaide premiership player was appointed as the club’s head coach for the 2023 season, after a 15-year coaching apprenticeship with Port Adelaide, St Kilda and Richmond.

In their first season under Kingsley, GWS transformed from a club that finished 16th in 2022 to one that fell just short of a grand final berth.

As a result, Kingsley was voted by his peers as the AFL Coaches’ Association coach of the year.

This year the fifth-placed Giants are charging towards back-to-back finals appearances.

“Adam has clearly had a profound impact on our playing group over the last 18 months and we’re thrilled to secure him as our head coach for three more years on top of his current contract for next season,” GWS chief David Matthews said.

“Adam has a great ability to teach, motivate and inspire the group and we see him as the ideal person to continue to coach our AFL side as we strive for the ultimate success.”

Kingsley also led the Giants to wins at 11 different venues last season, setting a VFL/AFL record.

With a Saturday clash against Melbourne looming, the road warriors are aiming to turn the MCG into a home away from home.
