Man arrested after *** soldier stabbed near barracks

A man has been arrested after a soldier was stabbed and seriously injured in a street near a barracks in southeast England.

The victim, who is in his 40s, suffered serious injuries and was flown to a hospital for treatment, the British Army said.

There was no immediate word on a motive.

Defence Secretary John Healey called the ******* “shocking” and posted on X that his thoughts were with the soldier and his family.

Officers were called Tuesday evening to reports of an ******** in Gillingham, southeast of London, and a 24-year-old suspect was arrested within half an hour, police said.

The ******* happened near Brompton Barracks, the headquarters of the British Army’s 1 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment.

The army confirmed a soldier had suffered serious injuries in the ******* and said it would work closely with investigators.
