Care For Hedland and Hedland Down To Earth Nursery, with the support of principal partner BHP, will be giving away 200 fruit trees as part of efforts for the 2024 Spinifex Spree and National Tree Day. Established in 1996, Planet Ark’s National Tree Day was created as a call to action for Australians to give back to the community and help with food security. Residents can collect a free token from the Care For Hedland Environmental Association stall at the Spinifex Spree on July 26 and 27 to be redeemed at the Hedland Down To Earth Nursery at Redbank. Recipients can select either an orange, lemon, lime, mandarin or mulberry tree to take home and plant in their backyard or on the street verge. Care For Hedland asks that people provide photographs and growth updates until the end of the year, with prizes up for grabs for completing surveys and providing information on the trees’ progress.
