How to farm Dark Matter in South Park Snow Day

South Park Snow Day has a surprisingly deep meta-progression with its Dark Matter system. The issue is that it takes a while to collect Dark Matter, and upgrades are expensive. If you need more power pronto, here’s how to farm Dark Matter in South Park Snow Day

Let me quickly explain Dark Matter and its uses so we’re all on the same page. Dark Matter is a currency used for permanent upgrades. You can spend the currency at Mr Hankey’s Portaloo in the Backyard.

You can use Dark Matter on permanent upgrades in the skill tree pictured above. Perks on this tree get expensive fast, and while you can refund upgrades you don’t need, you’ll eventually want them all.

You can earn Dark Matter through regular gameplay, and by opening any Purple Chests you find. However, even if you’re racing through the levels, it can take multiple stages to afford a single upgrade. Fortunately, there’s a better way.

Once you beat Stage 2, you’ll unlock the ‘To Danse with Ravenous Shadows‘ Horde Mode. You can access this by speaking to Henrietta, who’s standing next to the Portaloo. This is free Day 1 DLC and a great place to earn Dark Matter. When you first unlock Horde Mode, you’ll only have access to a single arena, but more will open as you progress through the campaign. 

Pick the first Horde Arena and drop the difficulty down to Easy. Head to the Travel Gate as you would for a regular mission, but don’t forget to pick your Weapons and Powers. My go-to loadout for the Horde Mode is a Wand and Two-handed Axe. As I do this solo with bots, I like the Healing Totem to keep them alive a little longer. I also bring the Snow Turret as enemies tend to focus on it, but use whatever you enjoy.

The Horde Mode is pretty straightforward. You must survive eight rounds to win. Even with suboptimal gear, I can complete the mode in about 12 minutes. The best part is that you can easily get over 100 Dark Matter per run. Keep an eye out for Purple Treasure Chests, as they appear randomly on the map and are full of Dark Matter. Another easy way to get more is to speak to Henrietta between rounds. Henrietta sometimes offers the Prince of Ravens card, which grants 20 Dark Matter.

While a little monotonous, this method can earn you at least 500 Dark Matter per hour, and it’s much faster than running campaign missions. If you spend some time earning Dark Matter, it can really take the sting out of the ******* difficulties.
