, the iPhone will fold horizontally–a design that would be similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip or the Motorola RAZR–and is said to be “in development with suppliers” as it has “moved beyond” the conceptual stage.

Like other smartphone manufacturers in this category, Apple is reportedly working out how to minimize the crease that appears when the phone is unfolded while also keeping it thin. Creases are a common issue in modern foldable phones, but the benefit here is that users get either a more compact device to use every day or more screen real estate to work since the smartphone can fold back up into a pocket-friendly size.
