Award-winning Broadway musical Hairspray coming to Perth for first time at Crown Theatre in September

Award-winning Broadway musical Hairspray is set to wow crowds in Perth for the first time and will feature a very unexpected Aussie TV presenter when it shows at Crown in September.

The multimillion-dollar show by Perth’s HAMA Productions is based on John Waters’s 1988 film of the same name and centres around dance-loving teenager Tracy Turnblad.

The highly acclaimed musical will hit Crown Theatre on September 7 with an extraordinary cast, including Better Homes & Gardens star Rob Palmer.

Palmer will take on the character of Edna Turnblad — Tracy’s mum — who was famously played by John Travolta.

Other well-known cast members include Chelsea Plumley, who plays Velma Von Tussle; Brendan Hansen, who plays Wilbur Turnblad; and Paige Fallu, who will play Tracy Turnblad.

The show will feature well-known songs Good Morning Baltimore and You Can’t Stop The Beat.

The musical claims to deliver an important message about celebrating one’s unique qualities.
